Dr. Mills served for the past year as President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. His term ended this past June, 2008. The California Society of Plastic Surgeons is an organization of practicing, board-certified plastic surgeons committed to the highest ethical standards. The mission of the CSPS is to advance the profession of plastic surgery through continuing educational activities, advise the public and act as patient advocates, protecting the welfare of the people of California with respect to cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.Dr. Mills is now a part of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons Alliance, "Helping kids lead happier, healthier and more productive lives". There are thousands of uninsured and under insured children with deformities in the state of California who have no one to help them. This Alliance is for California's financially disadvantaged children who need plastic surgery.
The Alliance is committed to helping physically deformed, uninsured California children get the medical care they need so they can have a chance to lead a normal life. Dr. Mills believes that improving the life of a physically disadvantaged child is one of the greatest contributions he can make. Children who have physical disfigurements may suffer from psychological trauma, low self-esteem and isolation. The Alliance is entirely composed of dedicated volunteers, working toward a common goal of helping children with deformities build a more positive self-image and lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. While similar groups exist to help disfigured children abroad, the Alliance is dedicated solely to the children of California. One in every five children presently live in poverty. One in every twelve has a deformity. Dr. Mills is continuing his efforts with the California Society by contributing his talent to this cause.
